In my book The Best Advice I Ever Got, I write about a meeting that changed the trajectory of my life. It was June 2009 and it was a meeting with a man who built the biggest wholesale brands in Africa (Game, Makro and others – otherwise known as Massmart). Among many gems he shared with me, he dropped this doozy… “Siya, you must always set standards for your life. And you must never settle for anything below these standards… not from yourself or anyone around you”. The problem I see today is that people are very distracted, they allow themselves to get pulled in many directions and no one is holding them to the highest standards they set for themselves! How sad!
